Does Rostoc support the Probat P Series?

Rostoc lists experimental compatibility for the Probat P Series over Ethernet. This 5 kg drum roaster can be connected for real-time roast logging, Curve recording, and roast analysis. For eligible accounts, Rostoc can also control the functions listed below. Confirm the setup before relying on it for production logging.

Connection setup

The Probat P Series connects to Rostoc over Ethernet.Connection: Ethernet.

Setup steps

Option A: Router or local network

  1. Connect the roaster with Ethernet.
  2. Connect your computer to the same network by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  3. Find the roaster IP address on the machine display, controller screen, manual, or router device list. On many Probat P Series machines, check Preferences → General; on some Probatone Series II machines, use the network or radio icon.

Option B: Direct Ethernet cable

  1. Connect Ethernet directly from the roaster to your computer.
  2. If the roaster uses automatic network addressing, change it to a manual/static IP first or reserve its address in the router before disconnecting from that router.
  3. Set your computer Ethernet IPv4 address manually in the same subnet as the roaster. Use the same subnet mask as the machine and choose a different IP address.
  4. For mask 255.255.255.0, usually keep the first three IP blocks the same and change the last one. For mask 255.255.0.0, keep the first two IP blocks and choose another address in that range.
  5. Leave gateway and DNS blank unless the machine manual gives values.

Finish in Rostoc

  1. Open Rostoc and go to Settings → Machines.
  2. Click + Add Machine and choose Browse Catalogue.
  3. Find "Probat P Series" in the catalog and click Add.
  4. In the machine settings, enter the roaster IP address. Do not enter the computer's static IP address.
  5. Click Connect to begin logging.

Troubleshooting

Rostoc cannot connect
Check that the IP address in Rostoc matches the roaster IP address. If you use a router, confirm the computer is on the same local network. If you use a direct cable, confirm the computer and machine use the same subnet mask and different IP addresses in that subnet.
Direct cable setup is unclear
Use a manual IPv4 address on the computer. For a machine at 10.20.0.211 with mask 255.255.255.0, use 10.20.0.42 with that same mask. If the machine uses 255.255.0.0, keep that mask and choose another 10.20.x.x address. Leave gateway/DNS blank unless the machine manual gives values.
IP address changed after restart
A router can assign a new address automatically. Check the machine display or router again, or reserve the machine address in your router.
Older Probatone network conflict
Some Probatone II/Wago small-touch-panel setups can conflict with routers using 192.168.2.x. Use a different router address range or ask Probat/your network admin.
