Diedrich Setup
Rostoc connects to Diedrich roasters through two different paths, and the right one depends on the machine in front of you. Diedrich CR and DR models are supported over Ethernet (Modbus TCP). Older or panel-less machines log through Phidget USB temperature modules, which is experimental — test that setup before relying on it for production logging.
Supported models
Section titled “Supported models”| Catalog entry | Status | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Diedrich CR | Supported | Ethernet (Modbus TCP) |
| Diedrich DR | Supported | Ethernet (Modbus TCP) |
| Diedrich 4-Sensor | Experimental | Phidget USB |
| Diedrich 6-Sensor | Experimental | Phidget USB |
| Diedrich 6-Sensor (Pre-2018) | Experimental | Phidget USB |
If you are unsure which path your machine uses: a CR or DR control panel means Ethernet; a Phidget interface board wired to the probes means the sensor path.
Diedrich CR and DR (Ethernet)
Section titled “Diedrich CR and DR (Ethernet)”Follow the Ethernet (Modbus TCP) guide for network setup, then add the Diedrich CR or Diedrich DR catalog entry from Settings -> Machines and enter the roaster’s IP address. If you don’t know the address, use the network scan.
What Rostoc reads
Section titled “What Rostoc reads”- Bean temperature
- Environmental temperature
- Inlet temperature
- Burner setpoint and fan setpoint feedback
Machine controls
Section titled “Machine controls”CR and DR entries expose burner and fan setpoint controls that you can operate from Roast Studio. Telemetry and control are separate capabilities — see Machine controls for how controls are armed, operated, and kept safe during a roast.
Diedrich sensor setups (Phidget USB)
Section titled “Diedrich sensor setups (Phidget USB)”Follow the Phidget USB guide for drivers and channel checks, then add the Diedrich 4-Sensor, Diedrich 6-Sensor, or Diedrich 6-Sensor (Pre-2018) entry that matches your wiring.
What Rostoc reads
Section titled “What Rostoc reads”- Bean temperature and environmental temperature
- Board temperature
- Inlet temperature (4-Sensor) or roast air (6-Sensor entries)
This path is read-only: Rostoc logs the probes but does not operate the roaster. Validate probe order on the real hardware before production use — swapped channels are the most common setup issue.
Validate the first roast
Section titled “Validate the first roast”Whichever path you use, run a short validation roast before production use:
- bean temperature and environmental temperature match the roaster display
- setpoint streams appear as feedback, not extra temperature curves
- the saved Batch reopens with the same streams, units, and chart routing
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- CR/DR does not connect — work through the network checks in the Ethernet (Modbus TCP) guide; confirm no other logging software holds the connection.
- Sensor setup shows no readings — confirm the Phidget driver is installed and the module is visible in the Phidgets Control Panel; see the Phidget USB guide.
- Readings are on the wrong curve — for sensor setups, check that probes are wired to the channels the catalog entry expects.
See Troubleshooting Connections for general USB and network checks.
