Giesen Setup

Rostoc supports selected Siemens-era Giesen roasters that communicate over Siemens S7 on Ethernet.

Start here before testing a Giesen WPG, GPE, W1, W6, W15, W30, W45, W60, W140, or WxA-style catalog entry.

Giesen setup requirements vary by machine era:

  • post-2018 Siemens machines
  • 2014-2017 Siemens machines
  • pre-2014 Moeller/Eaton machines

Rostoc’s current Giesen path is for Siemens-era machines. Treat older Moeller/Eaton machines as a separate support request unless the catalog page for your exact model says otherwise.

Giesen external-software workflows may require an unlock code from Giesen before another application can read machine data. Ask Giesen whether your exact roaster needs this unlock, and keep the machine serial number available if they ask for it.

For Rostoc support, this means:

  • ask Giesen whether your exact roaster needs an external-software unlock
  • keep the roaster serial number available
  • confirm the unlock is active before troubleshooting S7 stream mappings
  • include unlock status in support requests when possible

Rostoc does not sell or manage the Giesen unlock code.

Choose one connection path.

  1. Connect the Giesen roaster with Ethernet.
  2. Connect the computer to the same network by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  3. Confirm the roaster IP address from the machine display, previous setup, or Giesen documentation — or click Scan network under the address field in the connection settings to check your local network for a controller answering on the S7 port.
  1. Connect Ethernet directly from the Giesen roaster to the computer.
  2. Set the computer Ethernet adapter to a manual IP address in the same subnet as the roaster.
  3. Use the same subnet mask as the roaster and a different IP address.
  4. Leave gateway and DNS blank unless the machine manual gives values.
  1. Close other software that may be polling or controlling the roaster.
  2. Add the matching Giesen machine from Settings -> Machines in Rostoc.
  3. Run Test Connection.

If you already have an Artisan .aset file for the roaster, keep it available. It can help support confirm the S7 settings and stream labels.

For the first Rostoc run, validate logging before treating the setup as daily production infrastructure.

Check:

  • bean temperature and environmental or exhaust temperature match the machine display
  • gas, airflow, pressure, drum, and other feedback streams appear in the correct chart area
  • optional infrared or environment channels have the right labels and units
  • the saved batch reopens with the same stream labels and values

If values are missing, stuck, or clearly wrong, report the model, production year, software generation, IP setup, unlock-code status, and any existing setup screenshots or .aset file.

Giesen entries read bean temperature and environmental or exhaust temperature, plus feedback streams that vary by model — burner setpoint, drum speed, underpressure, and on some entries infrared or environment channels. The model page in the Giesen catalog lists the exact streams for your entry.

Most Giesen catalog entries expose direct controls — for example burner setpoint, drum speed, underpressure setpoint, and cooling or stirrer switches — that you can operate from Roast Studio.

Telemetry and control are separate capabilities: validate each control against the machine’s own panel before using it in a production roast. See Machine controls for how controls are armed, operated, and kept safe during a roast.

Giesen Profiler remains the native Giesen software path. Rostoc is useful when the roast record should connect to green inventory, roast plans, batches, notes, and team production history.
