Find Your Machine Connection Settings In Cropster

Summary

Cropster's Roasting Intelligence keeps the machine connection under Preferences → Machine, and there is no export for it — the values are read off the screen. The good news is that there are usually only two or three you need: the connector type, and the machine's IP address or serial port. Rostoc's catalogue fills in the rest, so most people only carry across the address.

Steps

  1. Open Roasting Intelligence on the computer connected to the roaster, click the gear icon, and open Preferences → Machine → Configuration.
  2. Note which machine is selected in the Roasting Machine dropdown at the top.
  3. In the connector setup section, note the connector's name. Generic connectors are named after the connection they use — Modbus over network (TCP), Modbus over network (UDP), Modbus over serial port, or Siemens S7 over network. That name is your connection type.
  4. Click the gear icon next to the connector to open its settings, and note the values. For a serial connector that includes the serial port (COMx on Windows, a USB device on Mac) and the temperature unit; for a network connector it includes the machine's IP address and port. The exact fields depend on the connector and on your roaster.
  5. Open the Machine → Measurements tab and note which measurements are switched on. That is the equivalent of Rostoc's stream list — the readings you should expect to see once connected.
  6. Take a screenshot of both tabs. It is quicker than transcribing, and support can read the whole setup from it.
  7. In Rostoc, open Machines from the sidebar, click + Add Machine, and choose Browse Catalogue. Search your manufacturer and model — supported entries pre-fill the connection settings, so usually you only need to enter the IP address or serial port you noted in step 4. Choose Set Up Manually if there is no catalogue entry for your machine.
  8. Close Roasting Intelligence before connecting in Rostoc. Serial, USB, and Bluetooth connections can normally be held by only one application at a time, and many machines accept only one network client.
  9. Run Test Connection before relying on the machine for production roasting.
  10. One thing worth knowing: these values describe your roaster, not the software. If a number on the screen disagrees with your machine's manual or with what your manufacturer tells you, the machine is the authority.
