Nucleus Link Guided Connection Test
Summary
Test Connection opens a separate guided window that walks through connecting to Nucleus Link step by step: opening the USB connection, then waiting for a started roast so it can confirm live bean temperature and fan data. Rostoc advances each step automatically as it detects them; nothing needs to be clicked to move between steps.
Steps
- Confirm the customer opened Test Connection from Settings -> Machines on the Nucleus Link entry, not a general connection question.
- Confirm Nucleus Link is powered on, connected over a data-capable USB cable directly to the computer running Rostoc, and that no other roasting software (Link Studio, Cropster, Artisan) is holding the connection.
- Explain the test has two phases: Rostoc first opens the USB connection, then keeps listening for live bean temperature and fan data.
- The Link does not send roast data while idle, so the test only completes once a roast is started; ask the customer to start a short roast (no beans or glass top needed) when the window prompts for it, and stay with the roaster.
- If the customer opened the test before connecting or restarting the Link, confirm this is expected: Rostoc waits for the configured USB connection and retries automatically, and can pick up a new USB path after a restart without changing saved machine settings.
- If the test does not advance past the USB/detection step, walk through the physical checklist: data-capable cable, direct connection, machine powered on, other roasting software closed.
- If the test does not advance past the bean-temperature/fan step even though a roast was started, treat this as a live-data issue rather than a USB issue and confirm the roast is actually running and producing readings on the machine itself.
- If the test still fails, have the customer click Send Diagnostics in the test window. This shares connection details and recent logs with Rostoc support and is only sent when the customer clicks it.
