Rostoc on American-made coffee roasters: what is supported, and how it connects.

If you roast on a Loring, a Diedrich CR or DR, a Sivetz SRM, a San Franciscan, a US Roaster Corp, a Phoenix, a Sedona Elite, an Ambex YM, a Buckeye, or a Mill City Roasters machine with a Delta, Fotek or digital control panel, there is a supported Rostoc catalogue entry for it. Rostoc reads bean and environmental temperature, rate of rise and machine status from the connection the roaster already has, and records each roast against a roast plan.

Sensor-retrofit setups on Phidget USB (Diedrich 4-Sensor and 6-Sensor, Mill City Phidget variants, the Hive Data Dome), the Arc and Sedona Elite 2in1 serial setups, the Behmor 1kg and the Primo Xr are experimental: they have connection settings in the catalogue, and you should validate readings on your own machine before relying on them.

• Supported: a catalogue entry with pre-filled connection settings for that model and connection.
• Experimental: connection settings exist, but check the readings against your machine on a test roast first.
• Support is per model and per connection, not per brand. Find your exact model in the machine catalogue.

Three Ways These Machines Connect

Ethernet (Modbus TCP) covers Loring, Diedrich CR and DR, and Sivetz SRM. The roaster and the computer sit on the same network, or on a direct cable, and Rostoc needs the roaster's IP address. Serial (Modbus RTU) covers the Mill City control panels, San Franciscan, US Roaster Corp, Phoenix, Sedona Elite, Ambex and Buckeye. The machine exposes a USB socket or an RS-485 terminal that needs a USB-to-RS-485 adapter. On Windows you may need the CP210x or FTDI driver, and swapped A/B wires are the most common cause of a silent connection. See the serial setup guide.

• Close other roasting software first. Only one application can hold a serial port or a Modbus connection at a time.
• Use a data-capable USB cable. Charge-only cables look identical and do not work.
• Run Test Connection in Rostoc, then log a test roast and compare it with the machine's own display before a production day.

What Rostoc Does, And Does Not Do, On These Machines

On these machines Rostoc is a logger and a production record. It reads the temperatures and status the roaster exposes, marks Charge and Drop automatically, marks Dry End and the cracks against your plan's targets, and saves each batch with its lot, plan and machine. You keep operating the roaster from its own panel. The Loring guide, for example, says so directly: Rostoc reads live data from the Loring; it does not operate the machine.

Once the roast is saved, the rest of Rostoc applies whatever the machine: roast plans with reference curves, batch codes you can print as QR labels, a written analysis of each batch, and, on the Growth plan, green coffee inventory where each roast deducts from the lot it used.

If Your Roaster Is Not Listed

The catalogue is not final. If your American-made roaster, or a model or controller of a listed brand, is missing, request support for it. Requests decide the order new machines are built in. If your machine already works in Artisan, Rostoc can import that .aset setup file, which often shortens the path.
